Landscape and Exterior Space Planning
Exterior Space Planning performs a variety of planning and design services for exterior spaces surrounding campus buildings.
Key Exterior Space activities include:
- Landscape design support for small campus projects and owner representation for large, capital construction projects
- Garden and planting management plans
- Pedestrian and transportation planning
- Exterior artwork placement
- Outdoor collaboration and educational spaces
- Site amenity selection
- Building foundation/terrace/plaza planting plans
- Accommodation of campus memorials and donor objects
- Planning for landscape maintenance, irrigation, and tree management
- Engagement with community programs in support of town/gown relationships

Work requests related to landscape maintenance and snow removal are to be submitted via Facilities Connect.
Landscape Project Review Policy
All projects that impact the exterior of a building or university grounds (including signage) must be sent reviewed by the university’s Campus Planner. All planting proposals must be sent for review at least 30 days prior to the start of installation.
