Operations and Maintenance
Facilities Operations is proud to be a steward of the University’s grounds, buildings, and infrastructure.
Between the two main campuses in Evanston and Chicago, our team of 295 employees cares for almost 230 buildings across 300 acres of property, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Delivering a reliable and safe campus environment is how we support the University's mission each day - no matter the circumstances and conditions.
Trades
Our staff is comprised of highly dedicated and skilled building trades people who ensure that we are able to meet the demands and needs of the broad range of campus infrastructure and systems. Our functional areas include:
- auto repair
- carpentry
- electrical
- groundskeeping
- HVAC
- locksmithing
- painting
- plumbing
- utilities
Additionally, contractors support areas such as custodial, elevator maintenance, and pest control. Within each area, we have staff members who are specialized in particular aspects of their fields – with examples ranging from arborists to welding, and finish carpentry to high pressure boiler operation.
Programmatic areas
The trades are supported by programmatic areas that include reliability engineering, infrastructure planning, customer service, and an administrative pool. These groups work collaboratively to streamline our service delivery, improve the quality and cost effectiveness of our work, optimize the performance and life of the campus infrastructure, and most importantly – ensure our customers have a positive experience.
