Videos posted on your Canvas site should have accurate captions. All audio posted on your Canvas site should include an accurate transcript.
Impact
The most obvious impact of providing captions and transcripts is the benefit to students with hearing impairments who would not otherwise be able to access information in videos or audio. However, the impact of captions and transcripts reaches far beyond hearing impaired individuals. It can also benefit people whose primary language is not English, students with learning disabilities, people studying in quiet environments or loud environments where it is difficult to hear, or students who prefer to take in information in multiple formats.
How To
- When choosing videos from outside sources for your course, make sure videos have captions and review them for accuracy.
- Use the or Zoom when recording videos to develop a starting point.

Moving Forward
Make sure when choosing videos from outside sources that they have captions. If not, contact the owner and ask them to add captions. When creating videos, use tools available to you such as Panopto or Zoom. Utilize the auto-generated caption feature to get a base and then review and edit for accuracy.
